What's the state of the galaxy?' And, [Rey]'s attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, based on the books, based on what she promised Luke, so that's where we're going." 4 years after The Rise of Skywalker was released, Daisy Ridley announced she was returning to a galaxy far, far away once again as Rey Skywalker, this time alongside Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy who will be directing the new film. The film was announced with additional Star Wars films directed by James Mangold (dubbed by fans as Dawn of the Jedi) as well as a film directed by Dave Filoni set during the New Republic Era, rumored to feature characters seen in The Mandalorian & other Disney+ television series.

After a few months of rumors, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that George Nolfi (Ocean's 12, The Bourne Ultimatum) is now writing the New Jedi Order film script.Originally suspected to release in May 2027, rumors are spreading that a new film, directed by Shawn Levy, will be the next to release after The Mandalorian and Grogu (May 22nd, 2026).
Kathleen Kennedy announced on January 15th, 2026 that she would be stepping down as President of Lucasfilm after 14 years. She was appointed to the position by George Lucas upon his sale of Lucasfilm to The Walt Disney Company in 2012 and has had a clear and lasting impact on the company. Throughout her tenure, 5 Star Wars films were released in theaters, including the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy which grossed over $4 billion at the box office. She also ushered in a new era of Star Wars alongside the launch of Disney+ in November 2019 where shows such as The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Bad Batch, and Andor premiered.Dave Filoni and Lenwyn Brennan were announced as her replacements having a combined 46 years at Lucasfilm. Dave Filoni will continue in his role as Chief Creative Officer, a position which he has held since 2023, and Lynwen Brennan previously served as President and General Manager of Lucasfilm’s businesses working closely with Kennedy the past few years. There is no doubt of Kennedy's lasting impact, not only to Star Wars and Lucasfilm, but on Hollywood itself having worked with directors such as Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Robert Zemeckis, and Clint Eastwood. Her films have grossed a combined $11 billion throughout her almost 50 years in the industry. She has also received 8 Academy Award nominations as a producer and co-founded the Kennedy/Marshall company alongside her husband, Frank Marshall.Kennedy will still continue her producer role on The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026) as well as Star Wars: Straighter (2027). In an interview conducted by Deadline, there was mention of many other Star Wars projects on the 'back burner', but no direct mention of Rey's new film. It is speculated, along with Ridley's confirmation of the film still moving forward last month while promoting We Bury the Dead, that this may mean an official update is imminent.

"Of all the Star Wars projects in various states of development, this one [Rey's 'New Jedi Order' movie] seems like the safest bet.”The Hollywood Reporter (Jan 16, 2026)
“I think over the years, I've learned how the reality of getting any film made is so massive. The hurdles are vast… But with this particularly, I know that incredible voices and creatives are part of it, and I know the wait will be worth it.””Daisy Ridley (Dec 9, 2025 IGN)
"Yes, [the Sequel Trilogy films] have been divisive, but also they bring a lot of love and joy to a lot of people. It feels pretty amazing to be able to continue a character...and try to figure out what’s changed for me and what’s changed for her."Daisy Ridley (Apr 25, 2024 Empire)
"There’s always movement, but the movement is at the right pace, because the best things are worth the wait."

"People have talked about it a lot that the release date often affects films and how quickly things go into production. So the freedom to make sure that this script is the best way to tell this story is wonderful, and I don’t think any fans would want it to be rushed."

Who runs this site?I do!Hi I'm Mads and I'm the crazy person who decided to pull together this site to keep track of all the new information coming out about Rey's new film.Of everything announced for Star Wars over the past few years, Rey's return to the big screen is easily my most anticipated movie - and one of a select few that seem to get a small update every few months.Additionally, it seems as though people are convinced this movie isn't happening for whatever reason, so I hope people can use this as a resource to share with others and show that there is quite a bit of movement and consistent updates.Follow me on social media!
How frequently is the website updated?I try to keep it as up to date as possible and list the "last updated" date in a few locations that are heavy on information. I input all the information & links manually and scan for the provided time codes & quotes so it takes a bit of work to keep things up to date in a timely matter. As of March 22, I'm still working through pulling information from press tours Daisy Ridley has completed for other past projects, so keep checking back for updates!
What kind of updates will be updated on the website? My goal is to only update the website with accurate and official information presented through formal interviews & press releases. Non-official updates & speculation will be posted primarily on social media & clearly marked as such.
Where Else can I follow for updates? There is an active Twitter account dedicated to posting updates. Otherwise we recommend following Mads on one of her many social media websites.
